Autumn Meditation
On our way home from cartooning class today, the kids and I stopped for a moment to admire the local color. The lighting was just right, not too bright, slightly overcast, some blue sky = brilliant color. Autumn in Maine is breathtaking and fleeting, so it's important to capture these moments, however brief, however strongly our bellies are grumbling for lunch, just stop. Pick up a leaf, save it for the nature table, take a picture, breathe deeply. And look. Observe. Pay attention. Let your eyes rest on the green giving over to red not in any crayon box. Really think about that--wow, red not in a crayon box. Red only imagined by leaves. Absorb the rare colors we forget exist until this very moment, when the leaves lift their green veils. Ah. Yes. Now I remember. Those colors.

Oh, such BEAUTIFUL photos! We are just starting to turn here - but we are driving north for a 3 day weekend and I have a feeling we'll have a riot of color.
ReplyDeleteVery beautiful where you live...
Where is that lil' bridge?
ReplyDeleteThank you, Denise! You have some beautiful photos on your flickr, lately also. Have a great trip, and hope you have many more photo ops with lots of color. (btw, your kids are adorable.)
ReplyDeleteAnnette--it's in Guild Park just a little ways from us in Ocean Park.
Gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteWe are having the prefect weekend coming up. Sunny in the low 70's! I'm hoping to take a long drive to catch some color:) Oh and now that gas prices have gone down a bit we might be able to afford such a luxury as a drive.
