Everyone is busy in spring, right? I'm not complaining, I love it. I love being immersed in gardening, spring cleaning, excursions to the beach or meeting for baseball, but it somehow doesn't leave a lot of time for blogging. This will have to do for now, a look at our week in pictures.
In our garden, Lily Of The Valley, May's birth flower (Adam's) is in full bloom beneath the plum tree.
The outgrown sandbox, converted to a raised bed where we have planted tatsoi, spinach, lettuce, kale, radishes, carrots and white cosmos and nasturtiums. In the boxes with the tuteurs, we've planted tomatoes and basil.
The picnic table that Alex made, which will seat 8-12 people and cost us $100 for materials--still waiting to be stained. We've been either on the go or needing to tend the garden or waiting for a day without rain. I'm hoping I'll be able to get to this project by this weekend.
Olivia's new haircut--lovely, simple, classic and edgy all at once.
Our lilacs are in bloom. We have white, purple and burgandy. And the scent, carried on a sea-breeze? There's nothing like it.
Alex is our pie guy. He made strawberry rhubarb pie this week and it was super delicious. The strawberries are from the last of our supply that we put up last June. The rhubarb is from our garden. Is it almost strawberry season again? How is that possible? The season of putting-by is upon us, as I've already managed to get a gallon of local and organic green onions into the freezer. Soon we'll have stacks of trays with strawberries flash freezing and fresh berries with cream and shortcake. Mmmm.
The end of a day at our favorite cove. We spent the day with friends, having adventures, good heart-to-hearts, finding creatures in the tidal pools and making syrupy black concoctions of mud, seaweed, flotsam and jetsum and sea water in a bucket under the bridge.
In the next two days, I will need to bake enormous amounts of bread, burger rolls, mainly, for those picnics and cookouts and meals on the deck. I hope to get to that picnic table, finish the spring cleaning, and tidy the garden before our weekend with family. Ahhhhh....spring. And loving every minute of it. I hope you are as well.
