New To Me Bread Book

I love cookbooks. As long as they contain recipes that are easy to follow and require simple ingredients and the recipe actually produces as promised--that's all I ask, really. Great photographs, logical steps, (did I mention easy?)-- are also excellent things to have in a cookbook. So that's why this new book that our friend Harmony gave us for Yule looks so promising. It's called, Artisan Bread In Five Minutes A Day. The book contains so many delicious bread recipes, a fact that alone makes the book valuable, but it also is serious about that five minute thing. See, they tell you that you can make up a big batch of dough using only yeast, salt, water and flour, hand mix it into a food-grade plastic container that has a lid, let it sit two hours to rise, then stick it in the fridge to keep for two weeks or so and you have dough enough for eight 1-pound loaves. The dough is there for you to use daily--simply get it out of the fridge, carve off a hunk, let it rise for twenty minutes and put in the oven! Simple, simple. At least I hope so. This is the first I've used this book, so I'll let you know. Or you let me know, if you're already familiar with this process. In the meantime, I've got the box of dough rising and it looks promising! I'll let you know how it tastes another day.

  2. FYI, I learned from a flickr friend that there are a lot of mistakes in the book and sure enough, there's an error page on the website for the book. I printed out the errata sheets to tuck into my book.

  3. Oh do tell how it tastes! This could be quite useful in our house, where a loaf a day could easily go down...

I might even bake some bread if it's that simple:)
