Spring Day At The Homestead

We went up the old Bradstreet homestead to celebrate my father-in-law's 77th birthday. Wow, what a beautiful day. The grass is greening, the trees are budding, the bees were out (my in-laws keep bees) and the Bradstreet brook was babbling along nicely. Again, being there had us thinking about that little house we are always hoping to build somewhere up in the woods. Someday, perhaps.

My mother-in-law made the cake and delicious lasagna dinner. It was good to gather around their table again.

After dinner, we took a short walk by the brook. We plan to go up again soon and help them mark the land boundaries--an all day process on their 125 acres, and we'll need to do it before the bugs get very bad.

Whenever we are up there, I love to walk around and try to see the homestead in a different way. Around every bend, there's another cast-off, something forgotten or left to be dealt with later. Each thing takes on it's own organic quality and eventually looks as if it too, grew out of the very earth.

Spring at the homestead is a beautiful sight indeed.

  1. I love even just the WORD "homestead." Makes me feel connected to something. Gorgeous, gorgeous pics, as usual.
